I am writing to advise you of the sad news that Bill Plumpton passed away on Monday, having bravely battled against illness for a long time.
Bill was a long standing member of our bowls club when we were known as Bass Bowling club and played at the Bass sportsgound in Anstey Road.
He was Captain of the club and Men’s Champion many times over and was known far and wide for his skill.
He fought to get Chawton Park Indoor Bowling Club built and was a founder member there.
I am sure you will all keep Brenda in your thoughts and prayers at this very sad time.
Brenda has informed us that Bill’s funeral service will be held on Thursday 7th April at Basingstoke Crematorium at 2.45pm followed by a wake at Chawton Park Indoor Bowls Club.

We will be organising coaching sessions to coincide with the roll ups, more details to follow.
We have had various suggestions for social events such as quiz nights, bingo, BBQ, Fish & Chips etc. It would be good if we could get volunteers to run any one or more of these events. (Any names please to Flo)

Nibbles will be provided and we will have one raffle prize, for a fee of £1 payable on the evening. Booking is required so please let either of us know if you wish to attend as numbers may be limited.
Bowls England are organising nationally an open weekend from Friday 27th to Sunday 29th May.

Our adventure to the quarter final stage of the competition ended in defeat by 28 shots to 12 against the 2018 winners, Banbury Central, who reached the final again with a 32-24 victory in the semifinal.
In the final against Bromley, Banbury Central were again successful winning 28-27.
A new experience at National Finals for 5 of the team must hold us in good stead for next season. Bring it on!
CONGRATULATIONS to our team who have today won the Stan Hardman for the first time in the club’s history.
In a close game we beat Odiham 4 points to 3, winning two of the three triples.
Congratulations to Lesley Johnson, Hazel Marke and Margaret Holden who are this years Champions having beaten the Cove triple 16 – 13.
Congratulations to Adam White winner by 21 shots to 13.
The final was contested between two Alton Social Players, with Margaret Holden winning 21 – 8 against Kate Fyfield.
Our congratulations to both players on their achievements.
Alton Social met a strong team from Kingsclere in the final of the Hants & Berks Cup.
The early exchanges saw Kingsclere gain a 12 shot advantage with all of Social’s rinks losing.
Shot of the game was by Adam White who on the 19th end fired as he was 3 shots down on the green. He missed! Kingsclere added a fourth with all four bowls within 15″ of the jack. Adam fired again clearing out all bowls leaving a shot advantage to Social on the rink for that end.
Kingclere were now chasing the game, which Social won by 10 shots.
Gary C Johnson, Marc Gorman, Gordon Summerhill & Dave Atwell – 19-17
Geoff Topp, Derek Ham, Ian Urquhart & Adam White – 18 – 19
Reece Graham, Gary M Johnson, John Kellow & Mark Fyfield – 21-12
